Orange Park Child Receives Scholarship for Free Speech Fluency Device
SpeechEasy Delivers Innovative Technology to Florida Children Who Stutter

Jacksonville, Florida, June 6, 2007 -- This year, an Orange Park child is the only one in Florida to receive a free, state-of-the-art electronic speech fluency device and related therapy through an annual scholarship sponsored by SpeechEasy, the nation's leading provider of portable speech fluency devices.

Launched in 2004, the Sean Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program provides free devices and therapy to Florida children who stutter. The scholarship is named in memory of 10 year-old Sean Anderson of Ocoee, Florida, who received the SpeechEasy device nine months before his untimely death in February 2004. With the help of SpeechEasy, Sean was able to speak fluently for the first time in his life, prompting his parents to help launch the annual scholarship program in his memory.

The Orange Park child, Jourdon Bellamy, 9, will be fitted for her new device on Thursday, June 6, at 5 pm at the Wolfson Rehab Clinic within the Baptist Health Center in Mandarin, 10337 San Jose Blvd., Suite 100. Martha Lopez-Anderson, the mother of Sean Anderson, will be coming from Orlando to watch Jourdon's fitting.

"We are excited to offer such a rewarding program to Florida children," says Alan Newton, president of Janus Development Group, SpeechEasy's parent company. "Improving a child's speech fluency can greatly enhance their quality of life and ability to communicate effectively."

The scholarship program selects one Florida child each year to receive a free SpeechEasy device. The recipient of the 2007 scholarship was selected based on eligibility criteria, including financial hardship and potential for life-changing benefits such as social and academic/career advancement. Jourdon submitted her own application, along with a 500-word essay in her own words.
