Art and Medicine Partnering to Heal Hearts
Children from Developing Countries Receive Help
July 19, 2005, Jacksonville, FL - Fogle Fine Art & Accessories, the University of Florida's Pediatric
Cardiovascular Center and Wolfson Children's Hospital are partnering to help
children with congenital heart problems through "Patrons of the Hearts," an art
exhibit and auction slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Fogle Fine Art &
Accessories’ new location at 3312 Beach Blvd.
The fundraiser, celebrating the artistic spirit and miracles of medicine, will
feature the works of renowned artists including leading local artist, John
Bunker, who has donated a limited-edition commemorative piece of art for the
event. All proceeds will benefit the Patrons of the Hearts endowment fund.
The event will also feature children' artwork selected from the 2005 Best of
Elementary School Art, a Duval County Public Schools program showcasing the
artistic talents of local elementary students. Each beautifully framed piece will be
available as part of a silent auction. Winning bidders will have the option of donating
the artwork to the Patrons of the Hearts Exhibit at Wolfson Children's Hospital.
About Patrons of the Hearts
The "Patrons of the Hearts" project was developed to create an endowment
fund to bring underprivileged children with complex congenital heart problems
from developing countries to Wolfson Children's Hospital for treatment.
The event's goal is to raise $500,000 over the next three to five years, which
would help cover the costs of treating four to five children each year for at least
15 to 20 years. Wolfson Children's Hospital will cover the cost of hospitalization
and the University of Florida physicians will donate their time and expertise to
care for the children.
Project co-chairs are
Dr. Jose Ettedgui
and Hilda Ettedgui.
