Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
A completely digital custom-designed cardiac catheterization lab within the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Children's Heart Center opened in 2007. The Children's Heart Center is expected to continue its growth because of the increase of Jacksonville's population and that of the surrounding communities.
The new lab is equipped with flat-panel digital technology that can generate better quality images for pediatric cardiologists. The center piece of the lab, the GE Healthcare Innova 2121, features two independently moveable imaging arms providing cardiologists with positioning options. This attribute is combined with its faster processing speed results in reduced exposure to radiographic dye and X-rays for the child undergoing testing, meaning procedures are also quicker, shortening the time a child is under sedation or general anesthesia and reducing the risk of complications.
