I pray that while I am in this place, those who come into my room to take care of me will be a blessing and a comfort, that they will help and quiet my fears and lift my spirits. I pray healing will take place, and I will become strong enough to go home. Celebration of Faith and Religion
In this space we will be featuring religions from around the world. We will present their rites and rituals, festivals and holidays, sacred places, faith and beliefs. As we explore what they believe in and how they express their faith, our hope is that you will take time to reflect on what you believe in, what your faith is, and how you express it. The following is one definition of faith: "When you trust something, you have faith in it. If you believe something to be true, you show your faith by being loyal to it. For million of people across the globe, their faith is the thing they trust, hold true and are loyal to. They pray and worship, and read the words that help them to remain faithful." ( A Faith Like Mine by Laura Buller) You may have your own definition of faith! Fun Fact: The most widely practiced faiths are Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. They attract more than 3.5 BILLION followers! (Laura Buller) Teen Issues
"Healthy self-esteem is based on our ability to assess ourselves accurately (know ourselves) and still be able to accept and to value ourselves unconditionally." (University of Texas at Austin, 1999). Raise your self-esteem. Develop your talents. Be your own best friend - treat yourself well and do things that are good for you. Reward yourself for your successes. Be true to yourself and your values. Spend time with people who care about you. Spend some of your time caring for others. God and Self-Esteem? "We are made in the very image of God (Gen. 1:26). He was aware of every detail of our lives before we were born (Ps. 139:14-16). He knows everything about us-what we need, what we eat or drink ( Matt. 6:25-32). He even knows the number of hairs on our head (Matt. 10:30). We are of great value to Him." (Demory, 2001, par. 22). God's love is unconditional – it is not based on what we do or don't do; he accepts and loves ALL of us, even the parts of ourselves we hate. I Wonder
I Wonder. If you have ever thought about starting a journal, a notebook where you could express your inner thoughts and feelings, written words or drawings? I wonder if you would be willing to share these thoughts and drawings with others who are going through some of the same things as you? I wonder if you ever thought of what a blessing it could be for someone? I wonder if you would like a journal? If you would like to start journaling, the Pastoral Care Office has journals available.
