Race For Strong Hearts
Gary, Suzan and Eric Schumacher have launched a race series, Race for Strong Hearts, to benefit the catheterization laboratory at Wolfson Children's Hospital. This effort literally comes from the heart – Suzan's brother, Chris, had open–heart surgery as a child in the 1950s and she still remembers how it was such a risky open heart surgery then. Today, with advances in medical technology, instead of an operation, a child undergoes a procedure where a catheter is threaded from the upper leg to the heart, and often the child is released to go home the next day.
The Schumachers are running in 10 races so they can achieve their goal of raising $100,000 to sponsor a room in the newly expanded Heart Center.
